Hercules & Love Affairs head honcho Andy Butler has finally released his first solo EP. It will be available on his own Mr.Intl record label. The EP is a two tracker and the lead track “you Can Shine” is a collaboration between himself and singer Richard Kennedy.

Andy states,

I wanted to explain the real difference here between Hercules/Andy Butler releases. I ultimately make the aesthetic call across the board, but I feel Hercules has found its voice a little more and established its identity (though changing all the time, wink wink) which I want to honor. However sometimes I wanna do whatever the fuck I wanna do – ie put a stomper out for the DANCEFLOOR and not so much the living room, vocals or none, and that’s where the solo EP thang comes into play.

Andy goes on to say about the release…

I wanted to tap into the gospel tradition, for there to be a testifying quality to the record. Richard and I talk in the lyrics about putting ego aside and allowing people around you to shine. You shine when you acknowledge other people’s shine, even, if you will, the creator’s shine. I hope we’ve created something new. House is often soulful but you very rarely hear a big gospel-inflected voice paired with booming, doomy techno.

You can check out the tune on the soundcloud player below.

You Can Shine is out on vinyl 2/23, on Beatport 3/16, and on iTunes and other digital retailers 3/30 via Butler’s label mr. intl.
